Wildfire coating

FRC-515 for wood decks and OSB

Looking for a coating that lets wood grain remain visible? FRC-515 is a semi-clear, water-based coating for slowing fire spread on wood surfaces. Its data sheet describes use on decks and other wood, including OSB sheathing, and lists interior and weather-exposed applications.

Ratings

Two surfaces, two different tests

OSB
ASTM E84 Class A flame spread rating on OSB.
Redwood deck
SFM 12-7A-4.8 Method B, 2.2 lb. burning ember, 25 minutes on redwood deck.

Start with your surface, then check the corresponding test. The Class A rating belongs to the OSB test. The redwood-deck entry describes its stated ember exposure. Keep that distinction when discussing the product with your contractor or comparing coating documents.
