TMS battery packaging
Battery-fire containment in familiar corrugated packaging
TMS packaging brings heat-activated fire-containment technology to corrugated boxes. Tell Fireproof Solutions what you ship, how you pack it, and your volume. We'll review the configuration and help you identify a packaging option for your application.

The problem
Start with what happens inside the box
If a lithium-ion battery fails, the packaging has a job to do beyond holding its contents. TMS, our Thermal Management System, is designed to contain a battery fire and manage heat within the package.
It uses heat itself to activate the protection. There is no power supply, sensor, or trigger to operate.
The system
Familiar boxes, a defined packaging system
TMS starts with a corrugated carton coated with FF88 inside and out. Depending on the configuration, the system can include inserts, an overpack, horizontal separators, and high-temperature packing tape.
For confirmed permit configurations, you can keep your current packing process and substitute TMS boxes for the ones you use now.
Choose standard box sizes or custom sizes at a low cost. The carton, internal components, closure, and battery load need to be considered together. We'll review how the proposed configuration fits your packing process.
Test recording
Watch a closed TMS carton under test
Standard-camera and infrared views of one carton, side by side. For the available source documents and transport permits, visit Testing & Documents. Test evidence and transport authorization are presented separately so you can see what each document addresses.
Applications
Tell us how you'll use the packaging
Routine outbound shipping
Start here for regular shipments of batteries, battery packs, or portable electronic devices. Share your contents, typical volume, and current packing approach. Our team will review the proposed packaging and applicable shipping requirements with you.
Returns and recycling
Tell us why the batteries are being returned and whether they are known or suspected to be damaged or defective. That distinction matters when matching an inquiry to a packaging system and its transport scope.
PACT's DOT-SP 21307 addresses specified packaging for undamaged, non-defective end-of-life waste batteries. Review the relevant permit and packaging conditions on Testing & Documents.
Damaged or defective batteries
These inquiries need a separate configuration review. Visit our specialist page for the information to include and the relevant PACT permit context.
Review Damaged/Defective PackagingStorage
If your application is warehouse storage, tell us what you store, the quantities involved, and how the batteries are currently packed. We can discuss finished TMS packaging for that use.

Route and scope
Match the packaging to the route
Battery condition, the complete packaging configuration, and the intended route all matter. The PACT special permits linked here cover prescribed systems and do not authorize air transport.
FPS reviews your inquiry first. For an appropriate corrugated-box order, our team coordinates the next step with PACT after reviewing your requirements.

Emergency Containment Device
Ask FPS about current availability and whether the Emergency Containment Device is an option for your intended use.
Describe your next shipment or storage need
You don't need every technical detail to begin. Tell us about your batteries or devices, their condition, your application, and estimated quantity or volume. Add the ship-from location and destination region if you know them.
We'll reply by email within one business day.
