PACT Lion-X: a water-based foam for lithium-ion battery fires

Lion-X is the world's first specialized, water-based fire extinguishing foam for lithium-ion battery fires, including those in electric vehicles, e-bikes, e-scooters, laptops and phones. Fireproof Solutions invented and patented the technology, and PACT puts it into a commercial product. It is an extinguishing agent, not packaging.

What it is

How Lion-X works

Lion-X is a water-based foam that turns white on contact and leaves a fine powder residue that is easy to wash off. The foam sticks to three-dimensional shapes and to overhead and vertical surfaces, and it penetrates small crevices.

It cools the surrounding cells to stop the domino effect of thermal runaway propagation and to prevent reignition. Its wetting agent penetrates the cracks and holes that form during thermal runaway. Lion-X also works on ordinary combustibles such as fabric, wood and cooking oil.

What our testing shows

Results from Fireproof Solutions testing of Lion-X.

Speed: Quenches lithium-ion fires upwards of 1,600°F within 30 seconds.
Capacity: The only extinguisher in its class proven to effectively put out lithium-ion battery fires up to 600Wh, in a 6L format.
Safety: Can be used without personal protective equipment (PPE).
Formulation: Biodegradable, fluorine-free, and free of heavy metals. Safe to flush into sewers.
Smoke: Produces virtually no hydrogen or methane smoke.
Temperature: Usable in temperatures down to 30 degrees below zero Fahrenheit.
Formats: Works in portable, wheeled, manual or automatic extinguishers, and can be piped into EV battery packs and energy storage modules.
